Still there’s nothing facile about her acrylics. They acknowledge reality and celebrate it. ‘I don’t want to ignore aging or loss or any of that,’ she says. Case in point: Her current series of paintings, Women’s ABCs, revels in the beauty, incongruities, and wry sensibilities of women’s clothing, accessories, and preoccupations. The paintings incorporate funny, insightful quotes from Bock’s favorite female writers, everyone from Willa Cather to Maya Angelou to Phyllis Diller.
